Baltazar de Faria ( ? - 1584)
Baltazar de Faria was Commander of the Order of Christ, member of King John III´s council, and later of council to King Sebastian, King Cardinal Henry and King Philip I of Portugal.
At the behest of King John III, he obtained in Rome the Bull which established the Holy Office of the Inquisition in Portugal, given by Pope Paul III.
He was a judge of the House of Supplication, the Inquisition court.
His tomb is in the South Gallery of the Cemetery Cloister in a niche of Renaissance features.
