Olivier de Gand
Flemish woodcarver hired by King Manuel I in the first half of the 16th century. His mission was to enrich the iconographic program of the Templar chapel with wood sculpted images over cormels and canopies, in the frontal arches and in the ambulatory wall of the chapel.
Alongside his assistant Fernão de Muñoz, sculptures in wadding polychromatic wood of prophets from the Old Testament, saints and church doctors, two heraldic angels, a set representing the Virgin and S. João Evangelista (Saint John, the Evangelist) and also the original choir stalls of the High Choir - meanwhile lost and replaced by the current ones originating from the Santa Joana Convent in Lisbon.
